Hi! I'm LaSchwanna Muhammad, and I'm best known for my ideas. I've had the joy of helping over 20 organizations become 501C3 nonprofits, build strong brand identities, fundraise successfully, and share their amazing work through impactful marketing.
My grant writing journey started in 2008 at Safe Hands Family and Children Services in Desoto, Texas. It was such an exciting time—we went from zero to $500,000 in grant funding annually!
Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of writing grants for all kinds of meaningful programs, from the arts and afterschool programs to summer meals for kids, HIV prevention and care, and homelessness support.
One of my favorite moments came in 2020, when I served as Development Associate at AIDS Outreach Center. I led the charge to help the agency become a Black-Tie Dinner Beneficiary—what a night! The event featured actress Lillie Tomlin, WFAA’s Dale Hansen, and even President Joe Biden. In 2022, as Development Director I was thrilled to lead the team that secured a one-million-dollar grant through the American Rescue Plan Act.
In 2024, as Development Director at Tarrant County Samaritan Housing, I created a North Texas Giving Day Communications Plan that helped us earn a $20,000 matching fund from the Morris Foundation. As one of ten nonprofits selected we blew past our $10,000 goal—raising four times more than ever before!
I earned my degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Texas at Arlington, where I also picked up a certificate in strategic social media marketing.
I'm proud to be a member of the Grant Professionals Association where I'm serving my second term as Vice President of the North Texas Chapter. I truly love what I do, and I’m always excited about helping organizations grow and thrive!
